Feel Abundant this August

Yoga poses to avoid the Summer Slumber

In this season of abundance, nature around us is vibrant in colour, life and growth. In Leo season, we are called to mirror this and we do so with social gatherings, holidays and a bustling calendar.

This can take its toll, naturally our self-care being left under the shade of the tree.

Do you feel like you have said YES to every invitation but maybe now your self-love and energies are running a little low? I hear you…

Before I share some poses we are focusing on this month in class and that you can do at home, I try and remember to take some time to reflect on how far I have come this year and how I have grown.

Here are some journaling prompts for you to fill your cup and do the same…

  • What are you grateful for in your life? (I do this daily before I rise out of bed)

  • What have you achieved these last 6 months? How have these helped you grow?

  • What has warmed your heart recently? How did it feel in your heart?

Yoga can be a fantastic way to stay active and balanced during the summer months. It can help you maintain flexibility, improve your focus, and promote relaxation.

Here are some yoga poses and practices that are especially suitable for summer;

lion breath summer yoga

Lions Breath (Simha Pranyama):

This breathwork is a fun and fabulous way of energising the body, alleviating toxins and stress.

This lion is Inkanya (taken in South Africa, 2006). If you want to boost your confidence, strength and courage, try doing 5 of these.

Have fun finding your ROAR!

Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar):

This classic sequence of yoga poses in the morning is perfect for greeting the summer sun and warming up your body.

Pigeon Poses (various names):

Pigeon poses are hip openers great for beginners, super active people, and can alleviate lower back pain. What makes this group great for me planning yoga classes is that there are lots of variations; reclined, standing and King.

Camel Pose (Ustrasana):

Open up your heart and chest with this pose, embracing the warmth and radiance of the season. Heart openers are perfect for the summer to cultivate gratitude and celebration of summer.

Legs up the Wall Pose ( Viparita Karani):

I leave you with this dreamy restorative pose which we have been enjoying in class last month too. I love it especially in the summer as it supports circulation, relieves headaches (drink up everyone) and tension in the legs, increases energy whilst promoting a calm mind.

If you would like help in doing this poses, you can join our yoga what’s app group, or come join us in class.

Thank you for reading and feel free to feedback.

Love & Gratitude,
